The sock knitter's square needle.
Double pointed needles are how you knit in the round on small circumferences; socks, sleeves, mittens, hats, the crown of a beanie. And if there's one place the square shape earns its keep, it's here: when you're juggling four or five needles at once, a needle that grips and won't roll off your lap makes all the difference.
Why knitters choose square DPNs:
- Four flat sides won't roll — they sit still on your lap and in your hand instead of rolling away like round needles, which matters most when you're managing a whole set at once
- Easier on the hands — the flat surfaces spread pressure across your fingers instead of one point, a real relief on arthritic or fatigued hands during fiddly small-circumference work
- Warm in the hand, never cold like steel — aluminum takes on your body's warmth, with none of the cold-metal feel of steel or nickel DPNs
- The square profile grips the yarn — more uniform stitches, and slippery yarns are far less likely to slide off the needle ends
- Anodized aluminum — anodized in a rich colour, light, smooth stitch after stitch
Set of 5 needles. Choose your length and size above:
- 5" (13 cm) — ideal for socks, gloves, and small circumferences · US 0–7
- 6" (15 cm) & 7" (17 cm) — better for sleeves, hats, and larger rounds · US 0–10
Available in colours: grey, blue, gold, and red.
